Centenary

2010 sees Castlebar Golf Club celebrating its Centenary. 100 years of golf in the same location.  The Club and its members are proud of this history and look forward to a centenary year filled with fun and festivities for all.

From a tenuous start, using land rented during the winter months with but a handful of players, even then the club spirit was strong, with that handful performing the necessary work to make a rudimentary golf course out of raw farmland.  Some of the major points in the club’s development were initially buying the land outright and building a clubhouse, and in 1985 extending the course to 18 holes.  Then in 1999 – 2001 the biggest and most ambitious project to date, the complete redesign and rebuild of the entire course, with 18 new greens and tees.

The result being that on the eve of our centenary we have a course and pavilion that all can be proud of and we can be sure that those founding members of 1910 and the pioneering members who followed them would be entirely pleased with the direction the club has taken and the achievements the club has attained.

And the journey continues.
