On the 8th day of November in the year 1910, a group of 33 men attended a meeting in the Imperial Hotel, The Mall, Castlebar. This meeting was held for the purpose of establishing a Golf Club. The minutes of this meeting record that "it was unanimously decided to form a golf club, to be called Castlebar Golf Club".
And so the Club was born. A 9 hole course was literally man-handled out of land rented from a Mr. Carson of Rocklands, Castlebar. And in Rocklands the Club has endured, undergoing many changes, some good, some not so good, but all the while evolving until today, in its Centenary Year 2010, Castlebar Golf Club can boast a very fine course, playable all year round. |
